All of us need to have a good cry from time to time. Although it feels very healing to let your emotion out in the form of tears, crying has the unfortunate side effect of giving you puffy eyes. This is not an attractive look, and it could be enough to start you crying again when you see in the mirror how puffy they are. To prevent that from happening, here is a look at five ways you can reduce puffy eyes after a good cry.
1. Tea Bags
Even if tea is not exactly your cup of tea, you should always keep some tea bags on hand in case you get puffy eyes. When your eyes are puffy from crying, one of the fastest ways to reduce the puffiness is to use tea bags. First, steep two tea bags in hot water for five or six minutes. Remove them from the hot water and let them cool to the touch. Once they have cooled, place the tea bags on your closed eyes for five to 10 minutes. Once you have done this, the puffiness will be drastically reduced.
2. Ice Ice Baby
One of the best ways to reduce swelling in any part of the body is to apply ice. Your puffy eyes are no exception. If you place an ice pack over your eyes for 15 to 20 minutes, you will see that the puffiness is reduced or eliminated.
3. Cucumber Slices
One of the most popular treatments for puffy eyes is cucumbers, and that is because they really work. If you have a cucumber on the fridge after a crying session, you can quickly reduce your puffy eyes with it. Slice the cucumber and place the slices over your eyes for 10 minutes. If puffiness still remains, repeat this treatment as necessary to completely eliminate it.
4. Drink Water and Avoid Salt
When you start crying, one of the first things you should do is to drink a glass or two of water. Dehydration leads to the body retaining water, which will worsen the puffiness of your eyes after crying. As well as drinking water, you should also avoid salty foods after you cry. The salt will also cause your body to retain more water.
5. Egg Whites
One of the lesser-known treatments for puffy eyes is egg whites. To use this treatment, whip a couple of egg whites until peaks start to form. Apply the beaten egg whites to your puffy eyes and wait at least seven minutes. Rinse the egg white off of your eyes, and you will see that the puffiness has disappeared. If your eyes are still a little puffy, you can repeat the treatment.
As you can see, there is no reason to let puffy eyes from crying get you down. These methods will all work to reduce the puffiness. Most people will have the necessary components for at least one of these treatments in their homes. Eyes free from puffiness are just a few minutes away.
